Oh my goodness. So we are really just having problems with the stupid cable provider.
Well, as you will recall in a previous post about my electric bill being stupid high because of my DVR box, now I have something new to complain about. So last week I tried to get on the internet. The internet is hooked up through the cable company Comcast Xfinity. Trent chatted it up with the lady on the phone and she said,” your box is not receiving the signal that I am trying to send to you. You will need to take it to our of our convienent locations and switch it out for a new one.”
Ugh, okay, so after work the next day Trent and I head over to this super convient location that is conviently located 35 minutes away from the house. This convient location is also located in a bad neighborhood. So bad that the Comcast location actually has graffti on it, or as some people call it “local art”. As we park the car and hope no one mugs us on the daylight, we walk in to a seccurity guard on duty. The place is lined with bullet proof glass for the ladies behind the counter. Safety is obviously not only a concern for me, but also the employees at this convient location. We put our little box into the bullet proof cage and close the door before she is able to open her door and recieve it. So we get a new box from the lady (who is actually very nice and helpful despite her living in a bullet proof cage).
We take our new box home, plug it in and it still refuses to work. We get on the online chat center and we are told that box needs to be registered and set up. We say okay, come and set it up. They say “No, problem Jenna. There will be a $49.99 service fee for the set up.” I respond, “It was your shotty equipment that made me have to get a new one in the first place. I did the work of driving to your convient location and living through it to get the new box. You can come service your box for free.” They responded that that was not how it worked. I responded with, I no longer want my internet service then. They gave me an number to call which I got to wait on hold for 20 minutes for, than once I got a rep I was put on hold again throughout the phone call. UGH. NO THANK YOU!
So, then a few days later I decided to catch up on some TV that I have missed. I go to TV on Demand only to find an Error 7. I go to online chat (because I have a work computer and I am allowed to use for personal use) and chat it up with my online rep. She tells me once again that “your box is not receiving my signal” I respond “You have got to be kidding me. I just risked my life to get a new internet box that I ended up canceling service on. I am not going back to risk my life for TV on Demand” She than explained that I could have a service tech come out for the convient price of …… (do you know what that price is?) YES! $49.99. Again I had to explain how I did not understand how I was being charged for their product that does not work. It makes NO SENSE!!!! I am already paying to use their product, I did not break it, there are no wires missing, I did nothing to it. They need to fix it because their prices to begin with are already to freaking high! Anyway, she explained that those were my options. I explained “I have lived without cable for 10+ years, I am moving in 2 weeks and I do not think I will be getting cable again. I never had this much problem with my rabbit ears and the programs were FREE” I told her “I would drive into the hood to drop off my boxes in the begining of August as long as I make it through the ghetto without being shot at or robbed of their shotty cable/internet boxes” She said she “understood” HAHAHA! Poor thing.
Either way, I will not be paying for cable again. It is stupid when I really watch ABC, NBC, and FOX anyhow.
Ha ha … it seems that you were very angry and i think you had reason to. It really irritates me when cable companies do that…. I mean they do some changes and then we have to pay for things to work….
AT&T recently did a similar thing to me. Very frustrating. It took me hours and hours to cancel a service they never installed. Then they even billed me for service I never had.
I did however, talk to many very friendly people at their India Call Center.
Oh No! That is insane! Yes, the people in India are super friendly and always say “Yes, I know how you feel” That is why you kind of feel bad for telling them they work for a crap company. These services are not worth the trouble, especially if you never purchased the service to begin with! That seriously shocks me!
We are transitioning to apple tv with Hulu plus and Netflix just to get away from cable. And we’re paying 1/3 the cost of cable! Thinking of you and grateful to have a big screen to read you now. I’ve missed reading about what’s going on with you!
I was going to suggest Netflix and Hulu Plus too! Great minds think alike 🙂
It really is so much better. Currently, all of my utilities are included in the rent, so all we have basic cable whether we want it or not. At my previous apartment complex, utilities were separate so I canceled my cable pretty quickly for Netflix and the then free Hulu. Now I think we pay $16 for both services combined and I’m able to watch all of my favorite shows pretty regularly.
Jenna, stay safe when returning that equipment! Running into bullet proof glass anywhere is pretty disturbing!
I made it! Do not worry 🙂 I would do the Hulu, Netflix thing but I do not always have streaming internet where I live. I have so many huge hurdles in this life. HAHA 🙂
Where you at, Girl?? Hope something didn’t happen on your way to return that darn cable cox! Hope your summer is going great.
My summer is going too great. Hahaha! I just got hooked up again with my personal computer, so for the next week or so I will be able to blog and than it depends on where we will be living. BUT i am trying to make my comeback!!
Glad to see you on the radar. Thanks for all the likes and love. Your words are special to me!
Aww, I really enjoyed catching up! 🙂
